Tiverton, Rhode Island is where we call home for Solette. It is not a place that many know, it's tucked away from the rest of Rhode Island and hidden among the farmlands and the shoreline. Often times people think a Rhode Island beauty brand is based in Newport or Providence, but Tiverton is the kind of place where the beauty is quiet and consistent — salt marshes at low tide, fog rolling in off the Sakonnet River in the early morning, and the farms growing produce in abundance.
This is where Solette lives.
Every product, every scent, every decision we’ve made as a brand has been shaped by what it means to live and work on this particular stretch of the New England coast. We want to tell you a little more about that — because we think it matters.
The Coast is our Influence
Coastal life teaches you things you can’t learn anywhere else and it gives you a deep appreciation for the ocean. When you get to see the ocean across all four seasons and you visit the shore regardless of the UV index, you start to appreciate it even more.
Living close to that kind of beauty makes you protective of it. You notice when something is off — more plastic on the shoreline than last summer, a change in the water clarity, the slow creep of things that shouldn’t be there. And that noticing turns into responsibility.
That’s a big part of why Solette exists. We didn’t set out to start a beauty brand. We set out to make something we could feel genuinely good about — products that were clean, honest, and didn’t add to the problem we were watching unfold on our own shoreline.
How the Coast Shows Up in Our Products
When we develop a new product, we’re always asking: does this feel like it belongs here? Does it smell like something natural on the coast? Does it feel like something you’d want to reach for after a morning on the water or an afternoon in the sun?
Our scent profiles draw from the natural world around us: the clean, mineral quality of salt air; the warmth of sun-dried driftwood; the freshness of coastal botanicals. We want our products to evoke a feeling, not just a fragrance.
Our formulations are also a direct response to what coastal skin actually needs. People who spend time near the water — swimming, sailing, beachcombing, just living with the windows open — deal with specific skin challenges: salt dehydration, wind exposure, sun damage, the constant push and pull of humidity and dryness. We formulate for that reality, not for a generic “average” skin type.

Rhode Island has a personality all its own. It’s fiercely local, quietly proud, and deeply connected to the water in a way that’s hard to explain if you haven’t experienced it. The smallest state in the country has more miles of coastline than most people realize — and those miles mean everything to the people who live here.

Living and building a business on the coast comes with an obligation to respect the sea. The ocean gives us so much — beauty, inspiration, livelihood, identity — and it's always there.
